Summary Information:
The Area of Information Systems and Quantitative Sciences (ISQS) in the Rawls College of Business at Texas Tech University invites applications for a full-time, 9-month Professor of Practice in Data Science and Information Systems position at all levels (Assistant/Associate/Full Professor of Practice), starting September 2025.
At Texas Tech University, the Professor of Practice title is used to recruit individuals with exceptional backgrounds and achievements in academic, business, government, or other professional practice. Primary responsibilities normally will be to teach in an area of expertise, mentor students in professional and career preparation, and liaise with professional contacts and entities on behalf of the department or program.

The Jerry S. Rawls College of Business is AACSB accredited and houses the School of Accounting that holds separate AACSB accreditation. The college offers the BBA degree with majors in accounting, energy commerce, finance, information technology, management, marketing, and supply chain management. Several formats of the MBA program are offered in fulltime, weekend, and online modalities in Lubbock, the Dallas/Fort Worth area, Houston, and San Antonio. The College offers MS degrees in data science, accounting, finance, and marketing research and analytics. A Ph.D. in business administration is offered with tracks in accounting, finance, management, management information systems, and marketing. With a faculty of over 140 and a staff that exceeds 80, the college enrolls over 5,000 undergraduate and 800 graduate students.
The Area of ISQS in the Rawls College of Business has been at the forefront of research in information systems for decades and was recently ranked as the 32nd in North America and the 40th worldwide based on research contributions in the most recent 2021-2024 timeframe based on the top two Information Systems journals of the UTD24 list (MIS Quarterly and Information Systems Research). We offer an IT undergraduate degree, a Master of Science in Data Science (MS-DS), and a Ph.D. in Business Administration with specialization in Management Information Systems. Our MS-DS program was ranked the No. 3 best online non-MBA program in the nation in 2022.

Requirements
Required Qualifications:
In line with TTU’s strategic priorities to engage and empower a diverse student body, enable innovative research and creative activities, and transform lives and communities through outreach and engaged scholarship, applicants should have experience working with diverse student populations at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels within individual or across all areas of teaching, and/or research/creative activity, and/or service.
Specific required qualifications are:
1. The candidates should possess a master’s or higher degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration or a closely related discipline.
2. The candidates should have knowledge and experience of using Generative AI and large language models either academically or in the industry and be willing to develop and teach Generative AI in business and information systems courses to both undergraduate and graduate students.
3. Successful candidates should have outstanding communication skills and be able to translate complex technical content into formats that resonate within a business context.
Preferred Qualifications:
In addition to the required qualifications, candidates with the following qualifications are strongly encouraged to apply and will be given preference:
1. Having industrial experience of developing and/or managing Generative AI applications;
2. Having experience of, or interest in, teaching courses related to Web design, application development, enterprise architecture and system integration.
The track record of accomplishments in teaching and research or professional engagement that aligns with the strategic initiatives of the Area, College, and University should be commensurate with the rank applied for.
